About Olivia

This work is truly personal to me

I didn’t come into this work just through training.

I came into it through my own experience, through birth, through loss, and through learning how profoundly important it is to feel safe, supported, and truly held during one of the most vulnerable times in a woman's life.

Olivia from Birth by Nature

My own births shaped the way I understand support, safety, and the difference it makes when a woman feels truly held.

My Story

The experiences that brought me here

Each of my births changed me, and deepened my understanding of both the strength a woman carries and what she needs when she is most vulnerable.

21

I became a mother for the first time at 21.

My son was born in a hospital birth where I was alone and without support. I hadn’t taken any classes and didn’t know what my options were or that I could make choices about my care. I didn’t feel informed, supported, or heard.

That experience ended in the loss of my baby.

It changed me deeply, and it shaped the way I understand birth, support, and the importance of a woman feeling safe in her experience.

With my second birth, everything was different.

At 26, I gave birth to my daughter at the Toronto Birth Centre, surrounded by my husband, my doula, and a midwife.

Even though my husband didn’t know how to support me at the time, my doula brought a sense of calm, guidance, and steady presence into the space. She supported both of us in ways I didn’t know were possible, and for the first time, I felt grounded, safe, and truly held through my birth experience.

My third birth was something entirely my own.

At 28, I gave birth to my son at home, in my bedroom, on my birthday.

Labour moved quickly, and while my husband cared for our daughter, I birthed him on my own before my midwives arrived. It was an empowering and deeply grounding experience that showed me just how capable the body is when a woman feels safe, connected, and able to trust herself.

Why I Do This Work

That difference matters.

I know what it feels like to go into birth feeling unprepared, unsupported, and unheard.

I also know what it feels like to move through birth feeling calm, grounded, and deeply supported.

That difference matters. And it’s the reason I do this work.
